SIL in Wagga Wagga

Our Approach to SIL

Support Independent Living in Wagga Wagga

At Kerima Care, we provide Support Independent Living (SIL) in Wagga Wagga for NDIS participants who want to build greater independence while having the right support available when they need it. Living more independently does not mean having to manage everything on your own. With the right support, you can develop everyday skills, make your own choices and feel more confident managing your routine in a safe and supportive home environment.

SIL can support you with the practical parts of everyday life while helping you work towards your individual goals. This may include assistance with personal care, preparing meals, maintaining your home, managing daily routines, taking medication as directed, shopping, attending appointments and getting involved in your local community. The type and level of support you receive will depend on your needs, abilities and NDIS plan.

At Kerima Care, we understand that independence looks different for everyone. For one person, it may mean learning how to prepare their own meals. For another, it could mean becoming more confident with household tasks, managing a routine or making decisions about how they spend their day. Our support workers work alongside you rather than simply doing everything for you, helping you build skills and confidence at your own pace.

We want your home to feel like your home — a place where you can feel comfortable, respected and supported. Whether you are considering SIL for the first time or looking for support that better matches your current goals, our team can help you understand your options and work towards a living arrangement that supports your independence.

WHAT IS SUPPORT INDEPENDENT LIVING?

Helping You Live More Independently

Support Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS support for people who need help with daily living while living in supported accommodation. SIL focuses on providing the assistance you need to manage everyday activities, develop practical skills and work towards greater independence.

The purpose of SIL is not to take away your independence. Instead, the right support can help you do more for yourself while knowing that assistance is available when required. Your support may change over time as your skills, confidence and circumstances change.

At Kerima Care, our Support Independent Living services in Wagga Wagga are built around your individual needs and goals. We take the time to understand how you like to live, what you want to achieve and where you may need additional support. This helps us provide assistance that fits into your everyday life rather than expecting you to fit into a standard routine.

Depending on your individual support needs, SIL may include help with personal care and maintaining personal routines. You may also receive support with cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping and other household responsibilities. Our team can also help you practise skills that can make everyday life easier, such as planning meals, following a routine, managing a shopping list, making choices and taking greater responsibility for your home.

SIL can also provide opportunities to build confidence outside the home. You may want support to attend appointments, take part in activities, visit local places or stay connected with friends and your community. These experiences can help you become more comfortable making decisions and managing different situations independently.

For someone moving into supported living for the first time, the transition can feel like a significant change. Having consistent and respectful support can make that transition easier. Our team aims to create an environment where you can feel settled, understand your routine and gradually build confidence in your new surroundings.

Most importantly, your goals and preferences should remain at the centre of your support. We encourage you to have a say in your routines, the activities you take part in and the skills you want to develop. Our role is to provide the support that helps you move towards the level of independence that is right for you.

Personalised Daily Living Support

Everyday tasks can become easier when you have the right support and the opportunity to learn at your own pace. Our daily living support in Wagga Wagga is tailored to your abilities, preferences and personal goals rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Support may include assistance with personal care and daily routines, preparing nutritious meals, grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry and keeping your living space organised. We can also support you with practical skills such as planning your day, creating shopping lists, budgeting for everyday purchases and learning how to manage household responsibilities. For some participants, the most valuable part of support is having someone there to encourage them while they try something independently. Instead of automatically completing a task for you, our support workers can provide guidance and encouragement where appropriate, helping you practise skills and become more confident over time. Your support can also extend beyond household tasks. You may need assistance getting to appointments, planning activities, communicating your needs or participating in the community. These everyday experiences can help you make decisions, build confidence and become more comfortable managing different situations. We recognise that your support needs may not be the same every day. Some days you may be able to manage more independently, while other days you may need additional assistance. Our approach is designed to respect those differences while providing reliable support when you need it. The goal is simple: support you to do as much as you can for yourself while making sure you do not have to face everyday challenges alone.
